Give Them Wings 2020
The next generation of regional health care students have been awarded scholarships.
With regions and communities cut off by lock-down zones, the important role of local health care teams and sustainable services in regional communities continues to be emphasised.
RFDS Victoria is working on providing long-term support to overcome shortages of medical and healthcare professionals in rural and regional Victoria. One way of achieving this is by encouraging young health students from country Victoria to complete their studies, and return to rural communities to improve sustainability of local services and deliver better health outcomes in rural areas.
Congratulations to our Give Them Wings scholarship recipients of 2020:
1. Cecilia Hayes, Nilma
Bachelor of Paramedicine, ACU
2. Tilly Lang-Ashworth, Barongarook
Bachelor of Nursing, Deakin
3. Tanika Moore, Druin
Bachelor of Paramedicine – ACU
4. Lydia Reiske, Yinnar
Bachelor of Biomedical Science, La Trobe Bendigo
Scholarships are valued at $3,000 each and contribute towards university living expenses for first year nursing or allied health students. Scholarship recipients also have the opportunity to gain experience with a day on the road or in the air with the RFDS crew, or at a clinic.
“These students are our next generation of health workforce. We are looking for students that understand the challenges of being part of a rural community but who also appreciate the strengths and what these give to a rural lifestyle. Our four recipients demonstrated passion and commitment about the part they could play in creating sustainable health services in rural Victoria,” says Dr. Melanie Trivett, General Manager Primary Health Care, RFDS Victoria.
The Give Them Wings scholarship supports students from regional and rural Victoria who are studying nursing or allied health.
The Give Them Wings Scholarships are proudly funded by the Bayside Auxiliary.
